Mayra Vela-Franco is a Houston Native, who loves art and design. She grew up in the Northern part of Houston along with her 5 siblings. Since she loved fashion so much, she decided to go to college in Long Beach at Brook College for Fashion Design after graduating from high school in 2003. She earned her Associates degree and prior to graduating she had her internship at Baby Phat, a fashion line by Kimora Lee Simmons.

She moved back to Houston after graduation and since Houston didn’t have too much diversity in the fashion industry, she started working at Simplified Mortgage. She is a licensed loan officer, and decided to start her real estate career in 2012. Right there and then, she knew that this is what she wanted to do in her life.

It was a little tough for her at first, but she never gave up. Her family is very supportive of her career in the real estate, specially her mother.

In 2018, she had her first son and married her husband, Felipe Franco. The following year, she took a course from HAR to become a mediator & Tax Arbitrator. Currently, Mayra conducts property tax hearings assigned by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, which she admits is another part of her career that she really enjoys. Then in 2020, she had her miracle babies, twin Boys – Alessandro & Izzak.

Mayra is a proud millennial mom chasing her dreams of being a successful Realtor and being a good mommy for her sons.

Here are some additional questions we had for Mayra in an interview:

  • Which area of town do you live in?
    Atascocita
  • What is your motto?
“Helping families achieve the American Dream of home ownership.”
  • Do you have kids?
I have 3 boys. My eldest and my miracle twins.
  • What’s your favorite food?
    I love Mexican food!
  • How long have you been as a Realtor?
    Since September of 2012.
  • Why do you enjoy being a Realtor?
I enjoy the fact that we help families buy sustainable homes.
  • What makes you special as a Realtor?
I believe being bilingual & enjoying what I do are the key factors because when you do something with love, it’s true & sincere. I also think that my tax arbitration experience is a plus because you can help inform buyers on what exemptions they qualify for and you can guide them in the protesting process.

So, here I am now with ApexPro, where I feel I can grow and expand with the company that feels like family even though I just started, and don’t know everyone too well yet.
